Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty made history by qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Paris Olympics with one group match remaining. The world number three duo were scheduled to face German pair Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel. However, the match was cancelled after Lamsfuss withdrew due to injury. They are the first Indian badminton men’s doubles pair to reach the quarter-finals. Satwik and Chirag were not the only history makers for India yesterday. Top scorer Manu Bhaker is also set to rewrite Olympic history on Tuesday.

Shooter Bhaker opens India’s account at the Paris 2024 Games and is set to deliver a record-breaking performance today. Bhaker can bag an unprecedented second medal in shooting for India. Along with Sarabjot Singh, shooter Bhaker will compete in the bronze medal match of the 10m air pistol mixed team competition at the Chateauroux shooting range on Tuesday. The Indian duo will take on Korean pair Oh Ye Jin and Lee Wonho in the bronze medal match. Satwiksairaj and Chirag will continue their group stage journey as the Indian duo will take on Indonesia’s Alfian Fajar and Muhammad Rian Ardianto in the men’s doubles event.

Shuttlers Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto will be aiming for their first win of the Paris Games later in the evening. Harmanpreet Singh equalised against Argentina yesterday and will lead India in the men’s Pool B match against Ireland. Looking to redemption for India, Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur and Dhiraj Bommadevara are the archers in action on Day 4 of the Paris Games. Later in the evening, after Amit Panghal’s match against Patrick Chinyemba, boxers Jaismine Lamboria and Preeti Pawar will be looking to give India a blow in Paris.
