The top home entertainment new releases for July 30 include Paramount’s A Quiet Place: Day One becoming available via premium digital, while the bulk of the week’s slate are catalog titles such as “Ted Lasso” on Blu-ray from Warner.

Paramount Home Entertainment releases A Quiet Place: Day One for premium digital sale and rental July 30. The third installment in actor-director John Krasinski’s sci-fi horror franchise is a prequel starring Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o that  takes viewers back to the first day of the invasion by deadly creatures who hunt by sound in New York City. The film generated $253.7 million at the global box office. It arrives on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and in a collectible 4K Ultra HD Steelbook Oct. 8.

Also on July 30, Paramount is releasing to digital platforms a three-movie collection that includes all three movies in the franchise: A Quiet Place, A Quiet Place: Part II and A Quiet Place: Day One.

Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment will release the Emmy-winning “Ted Lasso” as a complete-series set on Blu-ray Disc and DVD July 30. Ted Lasso: The Richmond Way includes all 34 episodes from the three seasons of the comedy series, which was originally presented  by Apple TV+. The boxed set will include a double-sided “believe” poster while supplies last. The series stars Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso, a small-time American college football coach who is recruited to manage a ragtag professional British soccer team despite having no experience in the sport. But what he lacks in knowledge, he compensates for with cheerful optimism. The cast also includes Hannah Waddingham, Jeremy Swift, Phil Dunster, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Nick Mohammed, Anthony Head, Toheeb Jimoh, Cristo Fernandez, Kola Bokinni, Billy Harris, James Lance and Juno Temple. The series was developed by c0-stars Sudeikis and Hunt with fellow executive producers Bill Lawrence and Joe Kelly, and is based on characters developed for a series of commercials for NBC Sports. The show, which ran from 2020 to 2023, won 13 Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series its first two seasons, with Sudeikis winning Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy for those seasons as well.

The documentary William Shatner: You Can Call Me Bill will be released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc July 30 from Distribution Solutions and Decal. The documentary is an intimate portrait of William Shatner — star of the classic “Star Trek” series and movies, among other features and shows — that strips away all the masks he has worn during his storied career, to reveal the man behind it all.

Mill Creek Entertainment will release Ultraman Taiga: The Complete Series and Ultraman Taiga The Movie: New Generation Climax together on a four-disc Blu-ray and through digital retailers July 30. The release comes from Mill Creek Entertainment’s recently announced extension and expansion of its current partnership with Tsuburaya Fields Media and Pictures Entertainment. The deal includes digital and physical rights for a full slate of episodic series and feature films from the “Ultraman” brand, including many that have not been available in the United States previously. In Ultraman Taiga: The Complete Series, comprised of 25 episodes, Earth has been infiltrated by aliens — a fact only known by a handful of people. Hiroyuki Kudo works for E.G.I.S. (Enterprise of Guard and Investigation Service), a private organization dealing with alien incidents and trying to keep the peace. Unknown to Hiroyuki, the Ultra Hero Ultraman Taiga’s particles of light are hidden within his body. A new story begins when Ultraman Taiga awakens from Hiroyuki’s body. Also included in this Blu-ray and digital release is Ultraman Taiga The Movie: New Generation Climax. In the film, we find our hero Hiroyuki Kudo continuing his work with E.G.I.S using his newly discovered power to transform into 3 Ultra Heroes — Taiga, Titas, and Fuma. Battling and defeating many enemies together, the bond between Hiroyuki and Taiga has deepened. However, someone has been targeting Hiroyuki. The New Generation Heroes — Sho, Daichi, Gai, Riku, Katsumi, Isami, and even Taiga’s father Ultraman Taro — come together to save him, and must now stand together to confront a bigger, darker power. The disc set also includes a 12-page booklet with hero character profiles, a main enemy and Kaiju guide, and episode synopses.

Well Go USA Entertainment will release the South Korean sci-fi sequel Alienoid: Return to the Future on Blu-ray Disc and DVD July 30. The follow-up to 2022’s Alienoid brings back writer-director Choi Dong-hoon (The Thieves) and stars Ryu Jun-Yeol (A Taxi Driver), Kim Tae-ri (The Handmaiden), and Kim Woo-bin (Master) for another mind-bending, time-traveling, sci-fi action adventure. In the new film, after locating the Divine Blade, a shaman and a modern-day woman race through time to battle a powerful alien commander intent on destroying mankind.

Well Go USA will release the horror film Sting on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on July 30. In the Australian film, a 12-year-old girl watches her pet spider rapidly transform into a giant flesh-eating monster — and prompting her to fight for her live, and her family’s survival. Written and directed by Kiah Roache-Turner, Sting stars Alyla Browne (The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, Sonic the Hedgehog 3), Penelope Mitchell (Hellboy), Ryan Corr (Holding the Man), and Jermaine Fowler (Coming 2 America)​​. 

The documentary Purple Pie Place will be released on Blu-ray Disc July 30 from BayView Entertainment via the Allied Vaughn manufacture-on-demand service. Purple Pie Place is a seasonal shop that serves pies and ice cream. Located in Custer, S.D, they opened in 1981 to serve homemade treats to those visiting the Black Hills. Directed by Daniel Zubiate, the Summer Hill documentary follows Yuliia on her journey as the fourth owner of the Purple Pie Place throughout the 2022 season.

Magnolia Home Entertainment will release Catching Fire: The Story of Anita Pallenberg on DVD and on demand July 30. The documentary tells the story of Anita Pallenberg (1942-2017), a woman who was at many points in her life a newspaper headline, from “rock n’roll goddess” to “voodoo priestess” to “evil seductress.” She was accused of trying to break up the Rolling Stones, among other things. But those who loved her considered her an exciting cultural force, a loving mother, and innocent of the accusations. Catching Fire: The Story of Anita Pallenberg is directed by Alexis Bloom (Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynold) and Svetlana Zill (Cutie and the Boxer), with the words of Anita Pallenberg being read by Scarlett Johansson.

BayView Entertainment will release the horror film Pale Horse, a psychotronic terror tale with an art world backdrop, on transactional and other streaming platforms July 30. In one of late director Pearry Reginald Teo’s final films, when mysterious artist Sabian (actor, model, and performance artist Perish Dignam) takes over an art gallery basement for his own personal painting studio, he has two eerie stipulations: no one must enter while he’s at work and all his assistants must be blind. As Sabian pursues wealth and fame through artistic endeavors, a series of odd encounters, unexplained occurrences, and strange visions befall all in his path.  Teo also helmed such films as Witchville (Universal), Dracula, the Dark Prince with Oscar winner Jon Voight (Lionsgate), and The Assent (ShockFest) starring Oscar winner Tatum O’Neal.

The Chinese crime thriller The Devotion of Suspect X will be released on Blu-ray Disc July 30 from BayView Entertainment via the Allied Vaughn manufacture-on-demand service. Based on Keigo Higashino’s novel, The Devotion of Suspect X follows a professor (Wang Kai) assisting in a murder investigation, only to find that a longtime rival and friend (Zhang Luyi) from his early university days may be involved. Directed by Alec Su, the film also stars Ruby Lin.

The Chinese comedy fantasy Beautiful Accident will be released on Blu-ray Disc July 30 from BayView Entertainment via the Allied Vaughn manufacture-on-demand service. In the film, when a single, successful female lawyer (Gwei Lun-Mei) is involved in a highway car accident, she wakes up to find herself in an alternate reality where she’s forced to take on the responsibility of a full time mother and wife, dealing with her demanding architect husband (Chen Kun) and two difficult children. Directed by Wi Ding Ho, the film stars Gwei Lun-Mei, Chen Kun and Jingchun Wang.

Kino Lorber July 30 releases the 1987 film No Way Out in a 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray combo pack and as a standalone Blu-ray Disc. The film, which earned $35.5 million in North American theaters, is being released under Kino Lorber’s Studio Classics line. No Way Out follows the story of an innocent man caught in a complex web of romance and murder, power and corruption. Directed by Roger Donaldson (The Bounty, Species) and based on Kenneth Fearing’s classic noir novel, The Big Clock, the film stars starring Kevin Costner, Gene Hackman, Will Patton, and Sean Young. The supporting cast includes Howard Duff (Shakedown), George Dzundza (Basic Instinct) and Fred Thompson (Die Hard 2). The 4K disc comes from a new HDR/Dolby Vision master from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative and is presented on a triple-layer UHD100 disc, with 5.1 Surround sound and Lossless 2.0 audio. Extras include a new audio commentary by filmmaker-historian Steve Mitchell and writer-actor Richard Brewer, along with a previously issued audio commentary by director Donaldson. The Blu-ray Disc also comes from a new HD master from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative and is presented on a dual-layer BD50 disc, also with 5.1 Surround sound and Lossless 2.0 audio. The Blu-ray Disc comes with the same two commentaries along with an interview with Donaldson by Film Stories’ Simon Brew.

Kino Lorber on July 30 will release the 2004 psychological drama Twisted on Blu-ray Disc. The film, originally released to theaters and on disc by Paramount Pictures, is being reissued on Blu-ray under Kino Lorber’s Studio Classics line. Twisted follows San Francisco police inspector Jessica Shepard (Ashley Judd) prowling the wharf for a serial killer. The investigation becomes more and more twisted as her partner (Andy Garcia, Internal Affairs) behaves strangely, and the police commissioner (Samuel L. Jackson, Changing Lanes) is being asked to remove her from the investigation as she is a prime suspect. All the clues point to her and even Jessica herself begins to suspect that she might be the killer she is looking for. Directed by Philip Kaufman (The Wanderers, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Right Stuff), Twisted features a supporting cast that includes David Strathairn, Leland Orser, Titus Welliver, Russell Wong, Camryn Manheim, Mark Pellegrino, D.W. Moffett and Richard T. Jones. The film comes to Blu-ray Disc from a new HD master from a 4K scan of the original camera negative and includes behind-the-scenes footage of the production of the film, an audio commentary from director Kaufman, deleted scenes and the original theatrical trailer.

Kino Lorber is launching the 1997 comedy In & Out on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray July 30. The film, directed by Frank Oz, written by Paul Rudnick, and starring Kevin Kline, Tom Selleck, Joan Cusack, Matt Dillon, Debbie Reynolds, and Bob Newhart, ils being issued in a combo pack along with a regular Blu-ray Disc, which will also be released separately. In & Out was released theatrically by Paramount Pictures and grossed more than $63 million at the domestic box office. The film’s prior home release was on Blu-ray Disc in July 2021. In & Out tells the story of teacher Howard Brackett, who is outted as gay by a former student who is now a superstar actor. Brackett, portrayed by Kline, is engaged to be married, and the film chronicles the ups and downs of the teacher coming to grips with who he really is. The 4K disc comes from a new HDR/Dolby Vision master from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative and is presented on a triple-layer UHD100 disc, with 5.1 Surround sound and Lossless 2.0 audio. Extras include a new audio commentary by Rudnick, moderated by author and film historian Lee Gambin. The Blu-ray Disc also comes from a new HD master from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative and is presented on a dual-layer BD50 disc, also with 5.1 Surround sound and Lossless 2.0 audio. Extras include the new Rudnick commentary along with new interviews with Oz and composer Marc Shaiman. Also included are vintage interview clips with Kline, Cusack, Selleck, Reynolds, Oz and Rudnick.

Six surviving episodes from the 1968 BBC television series starring Peter Cushing as Sherlock Holmes and the 1962 feature Sherlock Holmes and the Deadly Necklace, starring Christopher Lee, will be released on Blu-ray Disc July 30 from MVD Entertainment Group and Severin Films.

Having first portrayed the legendary detective for Hammer Films in 1959, Cushing returned to the role of Sherlock Holmes for a 1968 BBC television series co-starring Nigel Stock (The Lost Continent) as Dr. Watson. Though most of the shows were forever lost, six surviving episodes — including the two-part “The Hound of the Baskervilles” adapted by award-winning playwright Hugh Leonard — showcase Cushing at his elementary best, with guest stars that include Madge Ryan (A Clockwork Orange), Ann Bell (The Witches), Nick Tate (“Space: 1999”) and Gary Raymond (Jason and the Argonauts). The presentation of “Sherlock Holmes” — which also includes the classic cases “A Study in Scarlet,” “The Blue Carbuncle,” “The Boscombe Valley Mystery” and “The Sign of Four” — is now restored from BBC tape protection masters. Special features include audio commentaries for all episodes featuring Kim Newman, author of Anno Dracula, Barry Forshaw, author of Brit Noir, and David Stuart Davies, author of Starring Sherlock Holmes: A Century of the Master Detective On Screen; all episodes available with the BBC countdown clock; an illustrated Peter Cushing audio interview with David Stuart Davies; and missing episode clips with optional commentary by Jonathan Rigby, author of English Gothic, and horror historian Kevin Lyons.

Shortly after their hit collaboration on The Hound of the Baskervilles, Christopher Lee and director Terence Fisher (Horror of Dracula) returned to Holmesiana for Lee’s sole feature film portrayal of the world’s greatest detective with Sherlock Holmes and the Deadly Necklace. Shot in Berlin with Hammer regular Thorley Walters as Dr. Watson, Lee considered it to be “one of the best things I’ve ever done because I tried to play Holmes really as he was written — as a very intolerant, argumentative, difficult man.” Senta Berger (When Women Had Tails) and Ivan Desney (The Marriage of Maria Braun) co-star in this 1962 West German-French-Italian co-production produced by Artur Brauner (Vampyros Lesbos) from a screenplay by Curt Siodmak (The Wolf Man) and based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Valley of Fear, now scanned in 2K from the German negative. Special features include audio commentary with film writers Kim Newman and Barry Forshaw; Tony Dalton interviews Terence Fisher; Tony Dalton on Terence Fisher; and the trailer.

Kino Lorber July 30 releases the Patrice Leconte Collection, featuring The Hairdresser’s Husband, Yvonne’s Perfume, Girl on the Bridge and Half a Chance, on DVD. The collection will feature some of the French director’s most acclaimed work. The Hairdresser’s Husband (1990) pairs actor Jean Rochefort (Man on the Train) and actress Anna Galiena (Jamón Jamón) in an erotic ode to wedded bliss. Yvonne’s Perfume (1994) is a drama set at an exclusive lakeside resort wedged between France and Switzerland. Half a Chance (1998) is an action comedy in which actors Jean-Paul Belmondo (Breathless) and Alain Delon (Le Samouraï) get roped into saving Vanessa Paradis from the mob, as either one could be her real father. And Girl on the Bridge (1999) follows the courtship of a carnival knife-thrower (Daniel Auteuil, Caché) and wanderer Adele (Vanessa Paradis). Three of the four films included in the Patrice Leconte Collection also were released earlier in July by Kino Lorber as standalone Blu-ray Discs. The Hairdresser’s Husband was released July 9, followed by Yvonne’s Perfume on July 16 and Girl on the Bridge on July 23.
