Reports that Sam Burgess is set to extend his contract come a year after Warrington sacked Daryl Powell following an embarrassing defeat to Wakefield Trinity and seven consecutive defeats.

Burgess faces a final test on Friday evening when Warrington host second-placed Hull KR in a match where the winner will seal top spot in the Super League.
