The latest rumors surrounding the New York Yankees reveal that the All-Star batting team is still fixated on a trade before the 6 p.m. deadline

Today’s MLB trade deadline at 6 p.m. EDT is the last chance for World Series contenders to make a big move that could put them over the top. With just hours to go, the rumors surrounding the New York Yankees are ramping up, including more buzz about a target they’ve long coveted.

New York already made a big move this summer by acquiring All-Star hitter Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the Miami Marlins. While the Yankees front office is now focused primarily on pitching, it appears the club is still hoping one of its top trade targets will suddenly become available.

  • New York Yankees Lineup Statistics (ESPN): 553 runs scored (1st in MLB), .334 OBP (2nd in MLB), .438 SLG (3rd in MLB)

The Yankees lineup has been very productive this season, welcoming back Giancarlo Stanton this week. Stanton’s return, coupled with the addition of Chisholm Jr., has provided a much-needed boost. That said, New York entered today’s MLB games with the Yankees lineup sporting a .777 OPS (7th in MLB) and 14th in batting average (.247) since June 1st.

As the MLB trade deadline approaches, New York management continues to keep a close eye on one of the All-Star players they’ve been eyeing for months.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Yankees are “very keen to get their hands on” Colorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon. He is considered their dream target this summer, filling their void at third base both this season and in the long run.

  • Ryan McMahon stats (ESPN): .261/.346/.433, .780 OPS, 15 home runs, 47 RBI

It’s easy to see why McMahon would be a great fit for the Yankees lineup. He’s in his prime as a left-handed hitter, with three straight seasons of 20-plus home runs and a .740-plus OPS. More importantly, he’s under team control for three more seasons.

The Rockies organization, however, has historically been opposed to a massive sellout at the MLB trade deadline. Colorado has repeatedly made it clear to the Yankees and other MLB teams that it has zero interest in trading McMahon. While a deal is extremely unlikely, New York’s interest in McMahon will likely lead the team to try to sign him again this winter and likely in 2025 if the Rockies continue to struggle.
