The MLB trade deadline is always one of the most exciting times of the baseball season. We’ve seen plenty of trades take place that shift rosters and potentially free up playing time for prospects, and I’m sure there will be plenty more on Tuesday before the 4 p.m. ET deadline.

Today is a day to keep your wits about you and quickly pick up any prospect whose playing time situation becomes clearer after a trade. Being on your toes today could pay off big for the final two months of fantasy baseball season.

Remember that hiding fantasy baseball prospects is a strategic task that varies by league. Don’t leave your teams without much depth just because you want all the high-upside prospects on your roster.

Notes on many prospects can be found below the rankings. And remember, these rankings are for the 2024 redraft value only. These are MLB prospects that could potentially impact fantasy baseball for the remainder of the 2024 season.

Fantasy Baseball Prospect Rankings Analysis

Junior Caminero, Tampa Bay Rays

Okay, we’re officially on Junior Caminero watch with the Tampa Bay Rays rushing to sell MLB pieces over the past few days. With Isaac Paredes in Chicago, the hot corner is wide open for Caminero to step in. And no, I don’t think Christopher Morel will be blocking him, as he’ll be spending the majority of his playing time at the DH position.

THE MAXIMUM

Caminero has a pair of doubles and homers in his last seven games and has 13 dingers in 48 games this season. That seven-game streak also included one game with three batted balls over 110 mph. I’d be shocked if he doesn’t step up within 24 hours of the trade deadline.

Jasson Dominguez, New York Yankees

After missing the first six weeks of the season and then another six weeks, Jasson Dominguez is back in Triple-A and has been a scoring force all season. Through 25 games, Dominguez is hitting .344/.394/.573 with four doubles, six home runs and three steals. We saw Dominguez flash his plus power in his cup of coffee with the Yankees late last season before he got hurt, and he’s coming off back-to-back seasons in the minors with at least 15 home runs and 35 steals.

The fantasy potential is tantalizing, with Top-50 potential for the remainder of the season if he’s back with the Yankees. That path to the Majors is currently occupied by Alex Verdugo, who has a slash of .189/.252/.276 in his last 32 games.

Deyvison De Los Santos and Agustin Ramirez, Miami Marlins

Don’t be surprised if the Miami Marlins’ two newest hitters get some time in the majors before the end of the season. Both Deyvison De Los Santos and Agustin Ramirez were locked up in Arizona and New York, respectively, but now have a wide path to playing time in Miami. Third base has been dominated by the veteran Jonah Bride of late, and the duo of Nick Fortes and Alí Sánchez won’t hold up Ramirez for long. Both can also play first base, which helps since Josh Bell is a candidate to be traded before the deadline.

For both Ramirez and De Los Santos, power is the name of the game, with Ramirez hitting for 20 in 87 games this season and De Los Santos leading the minors with 29 in 89 games. Be careful with De Los Santos, however, as his aggressive nature and inconsistent contact will likely result in a lower average.

Jace Jung, Detroit Tigers

Though limited to 81 games this season, Jace Jung has hit well in those 81 games, posting a .267/.391/.500 batting average with 21 doubles, 15 home runs and a 16.9% walk rate. Jung has primarily played at third base this season, which is wide open in Detroit with the duo of Gio Urshela and Zach McKinstry getting most of the starts at the hot corner of late. As a hitter who will offer minimal velocity, Jobe’s bat should stand out, but the upside is a .270/25 bat over the long haul.

Jackson Holliday, Baltimore Orioles

Unfortunately, barring an injury, I’m really starting to doubt that Jackson Holliday will make a fantasy impact this season. With Connor Norby currently on the roster, Jordan Westburg on the MLB roster, and Coby Mayo likely ahead of him in the pecking order, I just don’t see a path to fantasy value for Holliday this season. Even if Norby gets sent back down the order soon, I’d imagine Mayo gets the first chance with Westburg moving to second base.

Jackson Jobe, Detroit Tigers

Many have asked why I haven’t rated Jackson Jobe highly in these stash rankings. Overall, Jobe is my top pitching prospect and one that I rate extremely highly in the long run. However, I simply don’t believe he’ll throw many innings at the Major League level this season, if at all. The Tigers have zero incentive to push their prized pitching prospect to the Majors this season and recent reports indicate that Jobe’s MLB debut is not imminent and that he won’t be skipping Triple-A.
