Lucinda Longcroft, Google’s director of Australian government affairs and public policy, is giving an opening statement at a Senate committee hearing on the introduction of artificial intelligence when she is interrupted by a chatbot with a male voice and an American accent. Later in the hearing, independent senator David Pocock asks Longcroft if “AI is helping you have this conversation.” Longcroft says she did engage Google’s AI assistant, but it did not help her answer questions from the Senate committee
