(LifeSiteNews) –– Ontario Premier Doug Ford had some pointed words for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, saying his continued push for lax drug policies has effectively turned his federal government into “the biggest drug dealer in the entire country.”

While I was speaking to reporters On Wednesday in St. Catharines, Ontario, Ford said bluntly: “As far as I’m concerned, the federal government is the biggest drug dealer in the entire country,” referring to the Trudeau government’s “safer supply” drug program and “safe” injection sites.

Ford made the comments after coming under fire from left-wing and mainstream media pundits for recently announcing that his provincial government would close several “safe injection” sites — facilities where drug users can legally inject or otherwise use narcotics — that are located near schools and daycares in his province.

“It’s unacceptable, it has to stop,” Ford said of the programs led by Trudeau.

“We need to get rid of the safe facility and put money into treatment and detox beds, that’s what we need to do, not continue to give people free drugs,” referring to the federal program that provides drug users with narcotics instead of buying them on the black market, as a supposed way to reduce the number of deaths from addiction.

Despite public backlash against the policy, Health Canada recently approved 16 additional drug consumption sites in Ontario. Ford noted at the press conference that he gets “endless calls every day about needles in the parks, needles at the schools, the daycares,” and called the situation “unacceptable.”

The Trudeau Liberals argue that their “safer supply” program is good because it “provides prescription medications as a safer alternative to the toxic supply of illicit drugs to people at high risk of overdose.”

However, studies have Research has shown that these programs often lead to higher overdose deaths in areas where they are allowed.

While the Trudeau government’s lax drug policies continue in many areas, they have been forced to roll back some of their most extreme measures.

After its federal government allowed the province of British Columbia to decriminalize the possession of hard drugs including heroin, cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine and MDMA starting January 1, 2023, reports of overdoses and mayhem began to skyrocket, leading to an increase in the province to request that Trudeaure-criminalize drugsin public spaces.

A week later, the Trudeau government cameadmittedand accepted British Columbia’s request.
