About the department

Cloudflare’s Engineering Team is comprised of some of the best engineers in the industry, dedicated to building and scaling innovative software that powers a large portion of the internet. Our Bots and Fraud Detection team develops advanced solutions to identify and mitigate malicious bot activity, ensuring the security and integrity of online applications. The team collaborates with product and other engineering teams to implement advanced fraud detection mechanisms and leverage machine learning techniques to protect digital assets from evolving threats across the cybersecurity landscape.

What you are going to do

Join Cloudflare’s Bot and Fraud Detection team to tackle real-world security challenges, leveraging massive amounts of threat intelligence data through data science and machine learning. Design, build, and scale high-performance distributed software for one of Cloudflare’s fastest-growing security products. Work with global data from over 50 million HTTP requests per second, using a tech stack that includes Go, Python, JavaScript, Rust, Lua, Kafka, Kubernetes, ClickHouse, PostgreSQL, and Jupyter notebook. Make a meaningful impact on detecting and mitigating abuse of HTTP L7 layer traffic globally.

The candidate should have a strong basic understanding of machine learning. Daily responsibilities include:

Work with analysts to understand new attack techniques, then design and implement models to detect these techniques
Deploy Machine Learning models into production systems and monitor their performance in real time.
Continuously improve the performance and scalability of existing Machine Learning models.
Identify, diagnose and resolve problems in production environments
Contribute to our MLOps platform to ensure the evolution of the platform

Examples of desired skills, knowledge and experience

In-depth knowledge of machine learning concepts such as which types of models perform best and which types of data
The desire to see a project through from model creation, training, productive deployment, through automated retraining based on feedback
Demonstrated ability to give and listen to feedback.
Demonstrable ability to deliver performance (what) with the right behavior (how)
Strong Fundamentals of Web Security

Bonus points

Experience in implementing Deep Learning models in production systems
Experience with bots and fraud detection

Compensation

The compensation may be adjusted depending on the work location.

For Colorado workers: Estimated annual salary of $137,000 – $167,000.
For employees in New York City, Washington, and California (excluding the Bay Area): Estimated annual salary of $154,000 – $188,000
For employees in the Bay Area: Estimated annual salary of $162,000 – $198,000.

Equity

This position qualifies for participation in Cloudflare’s stock plan.
