West Ham midfielder Jessica Ziu suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during a closed pre-season friendly on Thursday.

The 22-year-old Republic of Ireland international will undergo surgery before beginning her rehabilitation programme at the Hammers’ training ground in Chadwell Heath.

Ziu, who joined the Hammers from Irish side Shelbourne in 2022, played four games in the Women’s Super League last season.

She regularly played for her country at the 2023 World Cup in New Zealand and Australia.
