Israeli soldiers order Gaza residents to evacuate as new attacks expected

Israeli forces ordered Palestinians to evacuate parts of central Gaza on Saturday after carrying out overnight attacks on Hamas strongholds in the region, the second time in the past week they have been forced to leave.

The new measures will affect Palestinians living in the Alma’azi refugee camp in the center of the Gaza Strip and Palestinians in areas in eastern Deir al-Balah.

At least 36 people were killed in the Israeli army airstrikes, but it is unclear whether specific Hamas leaders were targeted.

The new evacuations, a sign of impending airstrikes, came after the United Nations determined that 90 percent of the 2.3 million people living in Gaza have been displaced by successive evacuation orders in the ongoing war against the terror group that began on October 7.

The Israeli military confirmed it lost three soldiers, two of whom were killed in fighting in Gaza City on Friday.

According to the Israeli military, the third soldier was killed by Hamas members.

The new evacuation orders came as a Hamas delegation arrived in Cairo, where it is hoped stalled ceasefire negotiations will resume.

In addition, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff CQ Brown landed in Jordan on Saturday for an unannounced visit. He will reportedly meet with officials there to discuss ways to prevent tensions from escalating further and potentially leading to a larger conflict.

As fears of Iranian retaliation grow, Brown is also expected to visit Israel and Egypt to meet their military leaders.

Meanwhile, former October 7 hostages and relatives of prisoners still in Gaza pleaded with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to sign an agreement to release their loved ones.

Netanyahu said at a meeting on Friday that there is no deal on the table yet to be signed.

In leaked audio of the meeting, one of the hostage’s daughters told Netanyahu: “You can be remembered as the one who led the country to a better place or the one who caused chaos here. You are the prime minister and you are responsible for the abductees, not Hamas and nobody else. You are supposed to make a deal that will bring all the abductees back.”
