Novak Djokovic calls Jannik Sinner’s doping case incoherent

The US Open media day led to many questions about Jannik Sinner’s doping problem: And Novak Djokovicwho appeared at a press conference in New York on Saturday afternoon, gave his opinion on the Monastery ball positivity issue that concerned the young Italian and that divided the tennis world.

The Serb shared his interesting thoughts and stressed that he understands the frustration of other players who have had similar stories but different judgments and who found the events inconsistent.

“As far as I know, his case was cleared up when it was made public, five or six months after the news was broken to Jannik’s team. There are many problems in the system. I hope that the governing bodies of our sport can learn from this case to take a better approach in the future. I think change is needed. Many players have experienced similar situations and not achieved the same results.

The question is whether it is about money, that is, whether a tennis player can pay a large amount of money to a law firm to represent him efficiently or not, but I don’t know if that is the problem. We need to look at how we can standardize so that every player, regardless of his ranking or status, can get the same treatment,” Djokovic explained.

An important point that the Serbian champion emphasizes, as he is one of the founders of the Professional Tennis Players Association together with Vasek Pospisil.

“Situations like this are why we set up the PTPA. The most important thing is the player, the rights of tennis players and making sure everyone is covered. We fight for fair, clear and standardized protocols for these types of cases. I understand the frustration of the players because there is a lack of consistency,” he added.
