Decker Selected as Next General Manager and CEO of Nebraska Public Media

LINCOLN, Nebraska (August 20, 2024) – Stacey Decker has been named general manager and CEO of Nebraska Public Media, following a national search.

Katherine Ankerson, executive vice chancellor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, announced Decker’s appointment this morning. He will officially assume the role on October 14, becoming only the fourth general manager in the network’s history.

Decker is a seasoned public media executive with more than 25 years of experience in local, regional and national broadcast markets. He currently serves as senior vice president of innovation and systems strategy at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

From 2007 to 2013, Decker served as assistant general manager for technology at Nebraska Public Media. His accomplishments included creating a more efficient media delivery platform that expanded the network’s production capabilities and delivered significant cost savings.

“I am honored to rejoin the incredible team at Nebraska Public Media during this dynamic and ever-changing time in public media,” said Decker. “I look forward to working together to achieve growth, expand reach and support the mission of enriching lives and engaging minds at the community and national level.”

Prior to joining CPB, Decker founded and served as president of Public Media Management, a partnership between Boston public media station GBH and Sony, where he successfully transformed the organization into a profitable company. He also served as Chief Technology Officer at GBH.

Decker was also a founding partner of Signal Infrastructure Group, where he developed strategies to help the broadcast industry leverage ATSC 3.0 technology, with the aim of improving broadcasters’ revenue profile.

“I am excited to welcome Stacey back to Nebraska,” said Ankerson. “He has deep roots in broadcasting and a passion for the digital media landscape with a strong entrepreneurial spirit that is data-driven and strategic. This, combined with his collaborative leadership style, will herald great things for the future of Nebraska Public Media.”

Mark Leonard, the current general manager and CEO of Nebraska Public Media, has extended his retirement until October 13 to ensure a smooth transition.
