Patriots vs. Commanders: Live updates, score, news, match details and more

The New England Patriots hit the road for the first time this season on Sunday night, wrapping up their 2024 preseason schedule against the Washington Commanders.

With final roster cuts approaching, the primetime showdown marks the last chance for players from New England’s “roster bubble” to earn a spot on the 53-man roster.

The Patriots started the night with the ball, putting Jacoby Brissett on first down in search of his first scoring drive of the preseason. New England picked up an opening first down when Brissett beat a blitz by finding Antonio Gibson out of the backfield for a gain of 13 yards. After the back shifted the chains back to the ground, Brissett was quickly sacked to set up an eventual 3rd-and-11. From the pistol, Brissett had plenty of time, but his pass down the left sideline to KJ Osborn was incomplete.

Jeff Driskel started for Washington, hanging in the pocket as he took a big hit from William Bradley-King on third down to move the chains. After moving the chains on the ground again, Driskel’s next third-down pass was complete but short of the sticks.
