MINNEAPOLIS – Severe thunderstorms, bringing devastating wind gusts, hail and a few tornadoes, are expected to hit a half-dozen Midwestern states on Monday.

According to the FOX Forecast Center, the extreme heat moving into the Midwest and excessive humidity will create severe weather through midweek.

Severe weather is expected in the Midwest on both Monday and Tuesday.

As the heat intensifies, many major Midwestern cities like Minneapolis, Chicago, and Milwaukee will experience heat index readings of over 100 degrees. Numerous record highs are forecast to fall as the heat slowly moves toward the Appalachians.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has issued a 3 out of 5 severe weather threat for more than 5.6 million people, including major cities such as Minneapolis, St. Paul, Rochester and Bloomington in Minnesota, as well as Sioux Falls in South Dakota.

The SPC predicts severe storms will develop Monday afternoon and evening across this area, which stretches from the northern and central High Plains into Wisconsin.

Large to very large hail, isolated tornadoes and strong wind gusts are expected, with possible severe damage, especially in South Dakota and Minnesota.

Several severe storms with high wind gusts and hail are also expected in southern New England on Monday.
