Adrian Martinez is one of several former Huskers cut at the NFL cuts deadline

After a busy day of cuts as NFL teams attempted to make their 53-man rosters, several former Huskers failed to make the Opening Day roster.

One of the most notable former Nebraska players to be cut was quarterback Adrian Martinez. The former UFL MVP failed to make the Jets’ 53-man roster, with New York going with Aaron Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor as the two quarterbacks to make the cut.

Former FSU quarterback Jordan Travis has been placed on the reserve/non-football injured list and will likely become the third quarterback on New York’s roster once he is healthy again.

Martinez threw for 270 passing yards in the preseason, with one interception and no touchdowns.

The Eagles cut offensive lineman Nick Gates, but fellow offensive lineman Cam Jurgens made Philadelphia’s 53-player roster.

Las Vegas running back Ameer Abdullah was also on the Raiders’ 53-man roster and was one of the team’s key returners last season.

Wide receiver Samori Toure recorded five receptions for 53 yards in the preseason, but was cut by the Packers and will try to earn a roster spot elsewhere.

Several undrafted rookies were also cut. The Broncos released safety Omar Brown on Monday and cornerback Quinton Newsome on Tuesday.

The Raiders released safety Phalen Sanford, leaving the Huskers without a rookie on the NFL’s 53-man roster.
