Husker fans gear up for fall season with double fan day

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Both the Nebraska football and volleyball teams hosted their annual Fan Day on Saturday to get Husker Nation ready for the upcoming seasons.

The day started early at the Bob Devaney Center with a line that wrapped around the building. Players and coaches were there to sign autographs and interact with fans of all ages.
The transfers and first-years received an official welcome from the volleyball fans and were enthusiastic about the expected season.

“It’s just a great community and they’re very supportive,” said Husker fan Maggie Gibilisco.

“They have a bond that goes beyond just volleyball, so hopefully it helps them play better together,” said Husker fan Tyler Harm.

At the Hawks Championship Center, Nebraska football had a large crowd to support the team and meet starting quarterback Dylan Raiola. Fans brought everything from posters and helmets to homemade black jerseys, shields and a guitar to get autographed.

“I’ve been playing guitar since I was five, and I was like, ‘Well, I thought, let’s bring some energy into this year.’ They were like, ‘Can I strum it, can I see it, where did you get it,’ all that kind of stuff, they love it,” said Connor Raastad.

“I felt the Huskers needed something more on defense, something to celebrate turnovers, so I designed the turnover shield to let the world know that if you don’t score, you can’t win,” said Paul Rea, who designed the Blackshirts’ shield.
