Cowboys sign Jets bust Dalvin Cook to pair with Ezekiel Elliott

The Cowboys have added a former Pro Bowler to their roster as the 2024 NFL season approaches.

Running back Dalvin Cook is signing with Dallas after being split between the Jets and Ravens last season, multiple sources said Wednesday.

The 29-year-old, who visited the Cowboys earlier this week, will reportedly be part of the practice squad.

Cook made four consecutive Pro Bowl appearances with the Vikings from 2019-2022 before signing a one-year deal with the Jets last August.

With Breece Hall dominating the backfield, Cook had little impact for the Jets, and the Jets released him at the end of last season.

He joined Baltimore and played a key role in the divisional round playoff victory over the Texans.

Cook had 67 carries for 214 yards and 15 catches for 78 yards in 15 games for the Jets.

After a year apart, the Cowboys brought back Ezekiel Elliott this year. Dallas is hoping the two former stars, now past their prime, can form a competent ground attack behind their offensive line.

Elliott, 29, was a three-time Pro Bowler in seven seasons with the Cowboys but joined the Patriots last season as Dallas pushed for Tony Pollard. Pollard subsequently signed a three-year, $21.75 million contract with the Titans, leading to a reunion of the Cowboys and Elliott.

In 17 games with the Patriots, Elliott had 184 carries for 642 yards and three touchdowns, adding 51 catches for 313 yards and two receiving scores.

Rico Dowdle, who played in 16 games for the Cowboys last season, was expected to play a larger role on a committee this season, but that could change once Cook gets up to speed.

On Monday, the Cowboys finally reached a deal with star receiver CeeDee Lamb, extending his contract for four years and $136 million.
