Against Connecticut Sun, Caitlin Clark broke a record last night. Here’s what

A WNBA record was broken last night when the Connecticut Sun played against the Indiana Fever.

The Fever’s Caitlin Clark broke the WNBA record for most three-pointers made in a single season when the freshman sensation connected on her 86th three-pointer of the season less than three minutes into the Fever’s game against the Sun at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

The previous record holder was Rhyne Howard of the Atlanta Dream in 2022, who made 85 three-pointers in a 34-game regular season.

In their second game of the season, the scores were neck-and-neck. The Sun defeated the Fever in June, in a victory so decisive that coach Christy Sides benched several starters early in the fourth quarter.

This time the game was much more exciting and physical.

It looked like the Sun had victory within reach when Marina Mabrey connected on a three-pointer to put the Sun ahead by 80 points in the fourth quarter, compared to the Fever’s then-78.

However, a layup by Aliyah Boston, a runner by Clark and two free throws by Lexie Hull allowed the Fever to block the Sun, making the final score 84-80 in favor of the Fever.

Clark has been called the “Female Steph Curry” for her ability to shoot three-pointers with great precision, just like the NBA champion.

Clark is averaging 18 points per game in the 2024 regular season, with 8.1 assists and a 33.0 three-point percentage.
