    The first week of the 2024 American football season begins on Thursday.

    However, one of Thursday’s games, North Carolina vs. Minnesota, has been postponed due to inclement weather in Minneapolis. The game was originally scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m. ET, but the Tar Heels and Gophers will begin their respective seasons at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.

    Also in the state, NC State football’s 2024 season opener against Western Carolina has been postponed due to lightning strikes.

    Thursday’s lone game between “Power Four” teams offers Minnesota a chance to bounce back from a 31-13 loss to UNC last season, but quarterback Drake Maye is gone from the Tar Heels and was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

    According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Max Johnson and Conner Harrell are expected to take quarterback snaps for the Tar Heels against the Golden Gophers. New Hampshire transfer Max Brosmer is the starter for Minnesota.
