PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — Howard coach Larry Scott was not happy with Rutgers coach Greg Schiano after the Scarlet Knights scored a touchdown on the final play in a 44-7 victory on Thursday night.

Scott walked across the court and shook Schiano’s hand after the game ended and appeared to say something to the Rutgers coach. Schiano turned around and it was unclear if he responded.

During his post-match press conference, Scott made it clear that he didn’t enjoy watching Antwan Raymond scores on an 11-yard run as time expires in regulationHe said he wouldn’t have done that.

When asked what he had said to Schiano, he refused to answer.

Scott said he didn’t know why Schiano did what he did at the end of the game, but he felt it could have been done differently and was frustrated by what happened.

“I think we’re both competitive people,” Scott said. “And in that situation, I would choose to handle it a little bit differently. I can’t speak for him. I have a lot of respect for Coach Schiano, what he’s done and what he’s been able to do. But we’re both competitive people. And in that situation, you know, there was just a little bit of frustration that came out because I thought it could have been handled differently. But he could have done it just as well.”

Schiano made no apologies for the way he coached.

“Guys practiced all through training camp. They deserve to play,” Schiano said. “There was no running. When it was running, you don’t take timeouts when you have the ball. You let the game end. It wasn’t retaliation. We were going to run plays. We’re going to bring a team here to play us. We’re going to bring them here. We’re going to bring them here, we’ve got to win and we’ve got to get reps. And they were there, we brought them.”

Howard had called two timeouts on the previous possession and gave the ball away on his own 31-yard line.

Raymond scored runs of 20 and 11 yards on the final two-play drive, breaking multiple tackles on each run.

Schiano called Scott a good coach for whom he has respect.

“I feel very comfortable with the way we handle our team, the way I handle our team, and if I wasn’t, I would tell you that too,” Schiano said.
