Travis Hunter has made so many remarkable plays that it’s starting to become routine.

Hunter is arguably the best player in college football, and he was masterful again in Colorado’s 31-26 win over North Dakota State on Thursday.

The junior cornerback/receiver finished with seven catches for 132 yards and three touchdowns. That included a 3-yard TD catch in which NDSU cornerback Jailen Duffie had his arm around Hunter’s head, but Hunter still reached out and caught the ball for the score.

“It’s funny because he (quarterback Shedeur Sanders) was on me for not catching the one that (drew a flag earlier in the game) because I told him to throw me the ball no matter what,” Hunter said. “So he got mad at me. He was like, ‘I don’t care, catch the ball.’ So that one, I just knew I had to catch the ball. I had no other choice, no other option. So whatever I had to do to get the ball, I was going to get it.”

The catch was notable, but certainly not a surprise to head coach Deion Sanders.

“First of all, it’s not a 50-50 ball with Travis,” he said. “If the ball is close, it’s his ball. So he’s that type of athlete.”

Shedeur Sanders was asked if Hunter is good enough to get open even when he’s covered.

Hunter leaned into the microphone and said, “Always.”

“Travis is always open,” Shedeur said, “because he understands how he’s being covered. He understands when he’s being covered from above. When he’s being covered from behind. Just, he just understands when someone’s on him.”
