College football games, scores: Georgia vs. Clemson, Penn State vs. West Virginia and more

It’s the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, which means the college football chaos is really starting to kick off.

Week 0 was just a taster, but this weekend things really get going with three games between teams ranked in the AP Top 25.

There are 21 games on Thursday — including Colorado’s win over perennial FCS powerhouse North Dakota State — and six games on Friday before things really get going on Saturday. Here are the late games to watch this weekend. (Scroll down to follow Georgia vs. Clemson and Penn State vs. West Virginia.)

(All tenses are Eastern.)

Time: 3:30 pm | TV: ABC | Line: Miami -2.5 | Total: 54.5

The first game of the season doesn’t make or break a team’s season. But boy, does it feel like the stakes are high in this interstate rivalry. Miami enters the season with high expectations and a promising transfer quarterback in Cam Ward. The ACC could be theirs to take after Florida State’s surprise loss to Georgia Tech last week. Florida might need this game to clinch bowl eligibility at the end of the season. Seriously. The Gators have talent on both sides of the ball, but they also have the toughest schedule in college football.

Time: 7:30 pm | TV: ABC | Line: Texas A&M -3 | Total: 46.5

Notre Dame doesn’t shy away from tough openers, and this one is no exception. Saturday night marks QB Riley Leonard’s first game in a Notre Dame uniform after transferring from Duke, but he’ll play behind a revamped offensive line that lost three starters from 2023. First-year Texas A&M coach Mike Elko brings a defense with plenty of new faces but still plenty of talent. And QB Connor Weigman returns as the Aggies’ starting quarterback with the goal of staying healthy all season.

Live40 updates

  • The Bulldogs are on their way now. Carson Beck just found London Humphreys for a deep completion over the middle and then ran for 10 more on the next play. They’re in the red zone now.

  • Georgia 13, Clemson 3

The Tigers finally get on the board with a field goal with just over 5 minutes left in the third quarter.

  • Penn State vs. West Virginia postponed due to extreme weather conditions

There is lightning in the Morgantown area so they are shutting down the action there. We will continue reporting when the game starts again.

  • The Tigers are on their way after some nice schoolyard completions from Cade Klubnik and are now on the Georgia 14-yard line.

  • Attention, American football fans: Iowa has scored a touchdown.

  • We land in Georgia!

The Bulldogs score the first touchdown of the game when Carson Beck finds Colbie Young in the corner of the end zone.

  • Georgia-Clemson is back for the second half. The Bulldogs have the ball and move it up the field with chunk plays

  • Win a goal from Penn State!

What a way to end the Nittany Lions half. Harrison Wallace gets a foot down as he falls to the ground and PSU extends their lead.

That happened only once after Drew Allar threw a bomb at Omari Evans.

  • The news is out in Nashville: Vanderbilt is looking good!

Commodores led Virginia Tech 17-3 at halftime.

  • Halftime: Georgia 6, Clemson 0

The Bulldogs effectively end the first half after their drive stalls just short of midfield.

  • Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava is 8-of-8 with 2 TD passes and the Vols lead 21-0 against Chattanooga midway through the first half.

We knew Tennessee had a chance to be explosive this year, but wow!

  • PSU 13, WVU 3

The Mountaineers finally get on the scoreboard with a 38-yard FG from Michael Hayes. West Virginia has controlled possession of the ball so far in the game, but has little to show for it.

  • Georgia 6, Clemson 0

The Bulldogs get another 3 points with a 55-yard field goal from Peyton Woodring with 4:16 left in the first half.

  • Not a great start for Iowa, but the team does hold a 3-0 lead over Southern Illinois.

  • Win a goal from Penn State!

One play after cashing in on a fourth-down pass, Drew Allar hits Kaytron Allen out of the backfield for a 20-yard score.

  • Georgia 3, Clemson 0

We got our first points of the game in Atlanta. The Bulldogs worked their way all the way inside the Clemson 10 before being held to a field goal.

  • Georgia has put together its best drive of the game so far and is now approaching the red zone.

  • Watch for an early surprise? Vanderbilt (+13.5) has dominated Virginia Tech so far, leading 10-0 early in the 2nd.

  • New season, Iowa continues to gamble

3 points for Iowa in the 1st quarter against Illinois St. The Hawkeyes are back! Probably a little too warm for the Punts jersey on August 31st.

Oh, Iowa also shot a field goal for a 3-0 lead.

  • Win a goal from Penn State!

Drew Allar finds Harrison Wallace on a deep crossing route and Wallace takes the ball 50 yards to the house.
