Taylor Swift is many things: a talented singer-songwriter, a cat lover, and an incredible baker. But it looks like she may have another unexpected interest in her relationship with Travis Kelce.

Inspired by her boyfriend’s career as a football player for the Kansas City Chiefs, Taylor has been diving into the sport — specifically the strategy behind it. The team’s star quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, revealed the “Cruel Summer” singer’s interest in football while discussing the importance of women taking an interest in the sport.

While explaining his position, he said Taylor’s interest in football surprised him because he realized “how genuine and cool she is.”

“I think that’s special to me because, like you said, she’s the most famous person in the world. She can’t be,” Patrick told NBC Sports.

“And she’s really interested in soccer and she asks a lot of good questions. She started making plays,” the soccer star added. He went on to say that her soccer plays were so good that the team “might have to put one in.”

On a personal note, Patrick explained why he hoped more women would become interested in the sport.

“I think it’s cool to see how girls and women really embrace watching football,” he explains, adding, “I know now, as a father of a girl, how cool it is for me to see how these little girls — these daughters — enjoy spending time with their dad and watching football.”

Taylor’s interest in soccer undoubtedly came to light when she began dating the Chiefs tight end. She began attending his games in September 2023. Her high-profile performances in support of Travis brought more and more people’s attention to the sport.

Reports suggested that Taylor’s presence at the games led to a 20 percent increase in sponsorships, with a huge increase in female viewership across several age groups. Among teenage girls, NFL viewership increased by 53 percent, while among the 18-24 age group there was a 24 percent increase.

As interest in her relationship with the football player grew, it all seemed to culminate with Super Bowl LVIII, which drew an estimated 123.7 million viewers, the largest audience for a single-network broadcast to date.

Naturally, the NFL has welcomed the increased interest, with commissioner Roger Goodell explaining: “It creates another group of young fans, particularly young women, who are interested in why she’s going to this game, why she’s interested in this game besides Travis. She’s a football fan.”
