Nevada’s game at Troy is a homecoming for Daffin; plus how to watch Nevada football

When Nevada plays Troy on Saturday, it will be a homecoming of sorts for a Wolf Pack player.

Nevada defenseman Tory Daffin grew up in Ozark, Alabama, about 33 miles from Troy.

The Wolf Pack (0-1) and Trojans (0-0) kick off on Saturday at 4 p.m.

“I’m excited to get back. There’s nothing like playing for your loved ones,” Daffin said, but added that he expects an excited crowd. “That tradition, it’s going to be loud in the student section, they’re going to be right behind us. I have a lot of friends that go to Troy, so I know they’re going to kick my ass, so I just have to make sure I stay focused.”

Daffin played at East Central Community College in Decatur, Mississippi before coming to Nevada and is a graduate transfer player now in his fifth season of college football.

His parents are Troy graduates, but he said his family is mostly Tennessee fans. Daffin expects about 50 friends and family members to attend Saturday.

His cousin Steve McClanahan played for Troy and then had a 13-year career in the NFL, winning the Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021. He was Daffin’s first call when the game was scheduled.

After the Wolf Pack’s final-minute loss to SMU last Saturday (29-24), Daffin said the locker room was happy to stay close to the Mustangs, but also disappointed with the outcome.

“Ultimately, it’s not good enough; you want to come out the other side,” Daffin said. “But that’s what made guys buy into it, we got there right away, knocked on the door, and we’re going to do some great things this year.”
