Brian Kelly may be nervous himself for the season opener, but he’s confident his quarterback won’t be tonight.

Kelly spoke with Holly Rowe just before kickoff on ABC for the match between No. 13 LSU And No. 23 USCHe joked that fear is normal for all players before a first game like this – even though he doesn’t think the reporter on the sidelines knows much about it himself.

“Everyone is going to be a little nervous. Me too,” Kelly admitted.

“I know, I don’t know,” Kelly joked to Rowe.

Kelly also has confidence in Garrett Nussmeier because of who he is and what the Tigers have around him. Nussmeier is experienced and so is their offensive line, and both are advantages for the quarterback in his second career start tonight in Las Vegas.

“Yeah, you know, listen. We’ve got a really good offensive line. That’s a good thing in openers,” Kelly said. “You can trust the offensive line to run the ball, get it in play.”

“You know, he’s played this game his whole life. He played in the bowl game last year,” Kelly added. “I don’t think it’s going to be that big.”
