Sony to take Concord offline on September 6 after disastrous launch

Sony takes Treaty, its latest PlayStation game, offline on September 6, after the game saw poor sales. The first-person hero shooter launched exclusively on PS5 and PC on August 23, but estimates have put sales at less than 25,000. Treaty also only managed an all-time peak of 697 players on Steam, lower than its launch peak The Lord of the Rings: Gollum — is widely regarded as the worst game of 2023.

“We have decided to take the game offline as of September 6, 2024 and are exploring options, including options that can better reach our players,” said Concord game director Ryan Ellis in a PlayStation blog post. “As we determine the best path forward, Treaty Sales are ending immediately and we are offering a full refund to all gamers who purchased the game for PS5 or PC.”

If you purchased the game for PS5 from PlayStation Store, a refund will be issued to your original payment method. If you purchased the game Treaty On Steam you get your money back within a few days, and the same goes for the Epic Games Store.

Treaty was launched as a $40 game after eight years of development and had to compete against many free-to-play alternatives such as Overwatch and even Brave in the competitive hero shooter genre. It ultimately failed to compete as a paid game, especially without a unique selling point.

Firewalk Studios’ mention of options “that will better reach our players” and the refunds give the impression that TreatyIf it does return, it will transition to a free-to-play model. “We’ll keep you updated and thank you again to all the Freegunners who joined us in the Treaty “The galaxy,” says Ellis.
