Rich Homie Quan, a fixture in Atlanta’s rap scene, has died at 34

Rich Homie Quan, an Atlanta rapper known for singles like “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” and “Type of Way,” has died. He was 34.

Quan’s death was confirmed to the Daily Beast on Thursday by a spokesperson for the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office. A cause was not immediately shared, with an autopsy scheduled for Friday.

According to TMZ, which first reported Quan’s death, the rapper was found in his Atlanta home on Thursday. The tabloid reported that his girlfriend discovered his body and called 911, telling dispatchers that Quan was not breathing and had no pulse.

Earlier on Thursday, social media was abuzz with speculation about Quan’s death after rapper Boosie Badazz referenced it in a series of tweets, saying he had heard Quan had “OVERDOSED,” or an overdose.

“Never forget your smile, the way we talked and of course your music,” Boosie added in another tweet.

Born in 1989, Quan found his niche as a lyrical, melodic rapper with a signature trap sound in Atlanta’s thriving rap scene of the 2010s.

He broke through in 2013 with ‘Type of Way’ and achieved his greatest success as a member of Rich Gang, a spin-off project of Cash Money Records, where he recorded the popular 2014 track ‘Lifestyle’ with fellow Atlantan Young Thug.

His relationship with Thug, real name Jeffrey Lamar Williams, eventually appeared to fizzle out behind the scenes. Quan has continued to insist there was no feud between the two, and called for Thug’s release following his 2022 arrest on gang charges.

When Thug’s trial began last November, his defense team sang “Lifestyle” loudly in court to showcase his artistic talent.

Quan’s name came up during the trial this week when Thugger, as he is known, laughed off a direct question about him from a witness on the stand.

Colleagues, employees and friends gathered en masse on Thursday to honor the rapper.

“Damn baby bro we just talked about doing a video,” Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz said on Instagram. “Special prayers for you and your family, and praying for anyone else dealing with anything. My condolences bru.”

“Rest in peace my brother Rich Homie Quan,” Jacquees said on X. “I love you forever. #Richgang.”
