    The US Open women’s singles final will be held on Saturday, when Aryna Sabalenka will take on Jessica Pegula in the final at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

    Second-seeded Sabalenka is in her second straight US Open final after losing to champion Coco Gauff in Flushing Meadows last year.

    Favorite home player Pegula, on the other hand, is playing her very first Grand Slam final.

    Sabalenka is the first woman to reach the US Open final twice in a row since Serena Williams did so in 2018 and 2019.

    The Belarusian has reached all four hardcourt Grand Slam finals in the past two seasons and is currently on an 11-match winning streak.

    The world No. 2 is just one victory away from becoming the first woman to win both hard-court Grand Slam titles in the same year since Angelique Kerber won both the Australian Open and US Open in 2016.

    At 30, Pegula is the oldest American woman in the Open Era to reach a first Grand Slam final. She is the third American woman 30 or older to reach a US Open final, after Serena and Martina Navratilova.

    Pegula is bidding for her first Grand Slam title and seventh career title. She was champion in Berlin and Toronto this year, and a victory would give her third title this season.

    Sabalenka and Pegula played each other seven times, of which Sabalenka won five.

    The last time they met was at the Cincinnati Open, where Sabalenka defeated Pegula in the final, becoming the only person to beat her in the North American hardcourt competition this summer.

    Pegula’s two victories over Sabalenka came in the first round of the 2023 WTA Finals and in the round of 16 of the 2020 Cincinnati Open, which was held in New York that year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
