Lincoln Police provide update on Haymarket shooting

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Police are searching for the suspect or suspects who opened fire in Lincoln’s Haymarket after a concert ended late Thursday night.

Lincoln police will provide an update on the shooting at a press conference Friday at 9:30 a.m. Watch the livestream via the video player above.

Capt. Duane Winkler tells 10/11 that the gunfire broke out around 11:30 p.m., wounding a 19-year-old. Winkler says officers found the victim outside the Hyatt Hotel near Canopy and Q streets. He adds that the 19-year-old was taken to an area hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

“There is no danger to the public at this time,” Winkler said, adding that authorities are still searching for the suspect or suspects responsible.

Winkler said officers were already spread out in the Haymarket directing traffic after a concert at Pinnacle Bank Arena. He said officers heard the shots before they could find one victim.

Two concertgoers told 10/11 at the scene that they were leaving the arena with a few other people at the time of the shooting. They say they were led back up a flight of stairs and told by security to stay inside the arena. The two added that they stayed inside for about 10 minutes before being allowed to leave PBA.

Anyone with information about the shooting should contact Lincoln police at 402-441-6000 or call Lincoln Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
