Nations League: Official France vs. Italy lineups

Italy will field Sandro Tonali, Riccardo Calafiori, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Matteo Retegui in the Nations League match against France, including three Milan players and Kylian Mbappé.

The event starts at 7.45pm UK time (6.45pm GMT) at the Parc des Princes in Paris.

This is the opening match of the Nations League in a group that also includes Belgium and Israel. Tonight the Azzurri play against the latter on Monday night.

Luciano Spalletti promised big changes after the disastrous Euro 2024, abandoning his tactical experiments to stick with a three-man defence.

Alessandro Bastoni has suffered a setback at the start for Italy, while Samuele Ricci and Davide Frattesi join Tonali, who returns to the international ladder after serving a 10-month ban for breaching betting regulations.

Nicolò Barella is out after surgery on his sinuses and Nicolò Zaniolo is still injured.

Retegui is chosen as captain of the selection, as only three players remain from the team that started in the round of 16 against Switzerland.

Lorenzo Pellegrini is a surprise, possibly in a trequartista role, while Andrea Cambiaso is chosen in place of Raoul Bellanova.

France are struggling with injuries in the run-up to this match. In addition, Olivier Giroud has retired from international football and Adrien Rabiot is still without a club.

Wesley Fofana, Ferland Mendy and Aurelien Tchaouameni all withdrew and were replaced by Loic Badé, Lucas Digne and Lazio midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.

However, Badé also suffered a muscle injury and surprisingly Liverpool’s Ibrahim Konaté started in the first team despite not playing a single minute at EURO 2024.

They did reach the semi-finals of the European Championship, but only scored once from open play. Didier Deschamps must therefore also face critics.

New Real Madrid signing Mbappé will play a role as a striker, supported by young players Michael Olise and Bradley Barcola.

Antoine Griezmann is also part of the starting line-up in place of Randal Kolo Muane.

There are three Milan players in the starting line-up: Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez and Youssouf Fofana.
