Packers TD wiped out after refs call 12 men on the field from both teams

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed would have scored the first NFL touchdown ever in Brazil if it weren’t for some math.

The Packers appeared to strike first against the Philadelphia Eagles in Friday’s NFL game against Sao Paulo, quickly marching into Eagles territory on their first possession. On third-and-6, Jordan Love caught Reed in the red zone and, one shaken tackle later, began celebrating a touchdown.

Then the authorities wiped it out. The reason for that is not something you see every day.

“There were mistakes by both teams during the game. 12 players on offense and 12 players on defense,” said team manager Ron Torbert said.

The Peacock broadcast even provided a useful tally for both teams.

That penalty proved costly for the Packers, as another Love pass was incomplete on the next play. Green Bay had shut down the offense for fourth-and-6, but a false start set them back another five yards and forced them to punt from the Philadelphia 43-yard line.

So, not a great start, but at least they weren’t the Eagles. Philadelphia’s first drive ended with a pass from Jalen Hurts being intercepted by Packers safety Xavier McKinney, setting up a Green Bay field goal, and then a botched snap on the next drive gave the ball back into Eagles territory.

Fortunately, Reed eventually managed to score the Packers’ first touchdown.

And then another one.
