Jayden Reed makes first impression in the Packers’ wide receiver room with an ‘every week’ approach

Still, Reed’s 138 receiving yards were more than the 122 of Green Bay’s other pass catchers combined.

He was also the playmaker who pulled the Packers out of their rut.

With just six points to show for it after a first quarter that started two drives in the red zone, Green Bay found itself in Eagles territory again on the offense’s first possession of the second quarter.

On the fifth play, from Philly’s 33-yard line, Reed followed his blockers perfectly on an end-around before fending off an arm tackle and running past a handful of defenders to find gold.

With that, he restored the Packers’ lead to 12-7. He then put them back ahead on their next drive by finding space in broken coverage, eluding safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson and sprinting the rest of the way for a 70-yard TD reception.

Green Bay’s offense fell into a pattern of inconsistency again in the aftermath, with Reed himself making a third-down drop late in the third quarter prior to a missed 43-yard kick by rookie Brayden Narveson.

Later, with the Packers in desperate straits, he made a catch that set up a 33-yard pass from Love, despite a hit by Quinyon Mitchell.

Love was injured on the next play. Whatever news emerges from his injury, good or bad, will be the ultimate takeaway from Green Bay’s season opener, but Reed’s outing was notable regardless.

Even though he’s not the team’s top target, he’s emerging as the most dangerous in the first week at least.

His continued development will be even more important to the Packers if Love is away for an extended period of time, and he knows that.

“I’ve got to look at the details a little bit more, like that one drop I had,” Reed said. “Just go look at it. No doubt about it. I’ve got to keep working on ways to do better.”
