Mexico vs New Zealand Prediction, Odds, Betting Tips, Best Bets for International Friendly Match

Mexico will face New Zealand at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena next Saturday. It will be Javier Aguirre’s first game as coach in his third stint as head coach of El Tri.

Mexico come into this match on the back of a poor performance at this year’s Copa America, where they were eliminated in the group stage and finished the competition with just one win: a 1-0 victory over Jamaica in their opening match. They followed that up with a defeat to Venezuela and a draw with Ecuador, which were not enough results to progress.

After that failure, coach Jaime Lozano ended his time as coach — a situation that paved the way for the return of “Vasco” Aguirre. Now his goal is to prepare the team as best as possible for the 2026 World Cup, of which El Tri will be one of the three hosts alongside the United States and Canada.

They are certainly the big favorites to win this match in California, against a team they have not faced since a 2-1 victory in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.

Sporting News takes a look at the latest odds and predictions for this match.

Mexico vs. New Zealand Prediction, Odds

  • Moneyline-lean: Mexico (-275)
  • Score prediction: Mexico 3-0 New Zealand

While there’s no such thing as a sure bet, it feels pretty safe to back Mexico to win this match comfortably. In five previous meetings with New Zealand, the Oceania team has only managed to score more than one goal once, and that was at the end of a playoff tie for the 2014 World Cup that Mexico had effectively already won.

The All Whites have also managed to score more than one goal in only one of their last 15 international matches.

Mexico and Aguirre will be looking to get the fans back on their side after a tough Copa America, so expect them to come away with a point to prove in front of what will likely be a lively crowd in California. It’s worth betting on a win for El Tri, perhaps a clean sheet in a row.

Mexico vs. New Zealand prop bet

  • Choice: Santiago Gimenez scores two or more goals
  • Chances: +675 (BetMGM)

This selection may seem a bit risky, especially considering Santiago Gimenez failed to score at the Copa America. However, the Feyenoord striker is having a great moment at club level and wants to transfer that to the national team.

The striker, who was linked with a move to Premier League club Nottingham Forest in the closing days of the recent transfer window, has scored twice in three of his last five club games.
