Tom Brady finally nears partial purchase of Las Vegas Raiders as he begins broadcasting career

“We go through a very thorough process on all initial transfers,” Goodell said in March at the annual League Meeting, “so we just go through that process.”

Raiders owner Mark Davis told NFL.com, “I have no comment at this time,” before expressing his excitement for the Raiders’ season opener on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Sources with direct knowledge of the situation said that many of the issues, such as the valuation and Brady’s role as FOX announcer, have been addressed and worked out — and are now in a much better position. All parties are reportedly happy with the approved valuation of Brady’s stake, which explains why it plans to move from the Finance Committee to an overall ownership vote, where three-quarters is needed for approval.

In the meantime, Brady will buy a piece of the Raiders, knowing that it will limit his ability to do his work as a broadcaster for FOX. Brady’s restrictions include not being allowed to visit another team’s facilities, not watching practices and not being allowed to sit in on production meetings. His entire production team, however, would be present at the meetings.

Production meetings are generally where color analysts get insight from teams. Brady is also not allowed to criticize officials, although what is criticism and what is analysis is open to interpretation.

While he waited a year to cover games on FOX, Brady has been working on his craft alone, covering countless games in preparation for what should be his most anticipated debut as a commentator in years.
