Seahawks snap counts and observations from the win against the Broncos

The snap count data has been released for the Seattle Seahawks’ 26-20 win over the Denver Broncos. Including plays that ended in a penalty, four Seahawks forwards played 100 percent of the 67 snaps: Charles Cross, Laken Tomlinson, Geno Smith and Connor Williams. It’s no small feat that Williams went the distance just nine months after suffering a torn ACL while with the Miami Dolphins. Anthony Bradford missed one snap after limping off the field, but it appears to have been minor.

While Tyler Lockett was Seattle’s top receiver that day, the bulk of the WR snaps went to DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Lockett had been out of training camp and the preseason with a thigh injury, so this appeared to be a tentative return to the field.

Rookie AJ Barner was selected over Brady Russell as the backup tight end, alongside Noah Fant, and he defeated him 32-4.

On defense, the Seahawks committed no defensive penalties and the Broncos had no mid-play offensive penalties, with not a single down having to be replayed when Denver had the ball. The entire starting secondary and Tyrel Dodson all played 69 of 69 snaps, while Jerome Baker was off the field just once for what was Coby Bryant’s only defensive appearance in a dime formation.

Rookie Byron Murphy II played 40 snaps, 34 of which were B-gap alignment (guard/tackle). Murphy recorded two tackles (both against the run) and two hurries. The takeaway here is that Murphy was not a starter on the unofficial depth chart, meaning he would be given Jack, as he was always going to see substantial playing time.

New Seahawks pass rusher Trevis Gipson played just two snaps on defense and special teams in his debut, while Mike Morris had just nine snaps on defense but was active on special teams.
