Shooting reported at Nebraska high school, days after Georgia school shooting

OMAHA, Neb. (WBTV) – Nebraska police responded to a shooting at an Omaha high school on Tuesday, just days after four people were killed in a school shooting in Georgia.

At least one person was shot at Northwest High School in Omaha, Nebraska on Tuesday, September 10, our partner WOWT reported Tuesday afternoon. The victim is believed to be a 15-year-old.

The 15-year-old was initially listed in critical condition. The alleged shooter, believed to be a student, is said to be in custody.

Officials said a school resource officer reported the shooting to police at 12:23 a.m. The alleged shooter was arrested at 12:58 p.m.

The school went into lockdown at 12:30 p.m., the school district said. The lockdown was lifted at 1:30 p.m. and students were released room by room, officials said.

Officials said the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident between two students. Other circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately known.

Tuesday’s shooting came less than a week after two students and two teachers — Christian Angulo, Mason Schermerhorn, Cristina Irimie and Richard Aspinwall — were killed Sept. 4 at Apalachee High School in Georgia. Several others were wounded in the shooting.

Since last week, false reports of school shootings have been coming in all over the country, including here in North Carolina. It is common in the US for school shootings to lead to more threats at schools

Multiple threats were posted online overnight Monday, September 9, through Tuesday morning, targeting schools in the Charlotte area. So far, an 11-year-old and a 12-year-old have been arrested in connection with the threats.

There were also multiple school-related threats made in Georgia following the Apalachee High School shooting. At least three people under the age of 18 have been charged in Georgia, our sister station reports.
