Nebraska Cornhuskers win weekend with comeback games

The Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team struggled probably their biggest loss of the past decade earlier this week. Now it’s time to bounce back from that defeat and show they can apply the killer approach of last year.

While not infallible, the Huskers’ two wins this weekend, both sweeps, could show they’re poised to become the team everyone expected in 2024. Though there’s still plenty to work on and build on.

After sweeping The Citadel on Thursday, the Huskers swept Montana State on Saturday afternoon, 25-19, 25-15, 25-10. NU is now 5-1 on the season. That final set against MSU could be a sign that the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team is not quite in its stride yet.

As we have seen more often in recent matches, head coach John Cook varied the line-up, with Taylor Landfair playing Harper Murray on the outside in set 2 and Landfair Lindsay Krause in set 3. We also saw Leyla Blackwell in the middle instead of Rebekah Allick.

Some may have been concerned that all that shuffling and shaking would hurt NU’s chemistry on the pitch, but it seems to be something the players are adapting to well. It also shows that Cook knows he has so much talent in this squad that he might as well use it all.

Of course, the Huskers’ regulars also showed up against Montana State. Harper Murray led all attackers with 11 kills and an impressive .400 on the day.

Meanwhile, Andi Jackson and Rebekah Allick combined for 13 kills. They were also both hitting .500 for the match.

Bergen Reilly had 37 assists, tying Lexi Rodriguez with a team-high eight assists.

The wins on Thursday and Saturday mean the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team will enter next week having officially gotten the ship back on track. Now it’s time to find the same kind of equipment they found last season as the schedule gets a lot tougher, starting with a match on Tuesday against Creighton.
