Cold tonight, pleasant and windy on Sunday

In contrast to the heat and humidity of a few weeks ago, this week will be heat and wildfire smoke. Overall humidity will remain low with dry air, but the upper atmosphere will be inundated with wildfire smoke. High temperatures on Wednesday will be a few degrees cooler than Thursday due to this smoke. Morning temperatures will remain comfortable in the 50s, warming into the low 60s on Saturday morning. No rain is forecast for the rest of the week, and the chance of tropical humidity bringing rain on Sunday is also very low. Dryness will intensify in Michiana with no relief in the extended forecast.

WEDNESDAY: Warm in the afternoon. Mostly sunny, but foggy as wildfire smoke lingers in the upper atmosphere. Air quality will not be affected locally. High around 88F. Low 58F. Low humidity expected. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny except for a few clouds in the afternoon. Foggy due to wildfire smoke lingering in the upper atmosphere. Air quality not affected locally. Highs around 90F. Lows around 60F. Low humidity expected. Winds ESE 10 to 15 mph.

FRIDAY: Increasing clouds. High around 85F. Low 62F. Winds ESE 10 to 20 mph.

OUR NEXT FIRST WARNING: Dry weather will continue through at least Friday, making this the longest stretch without measurable rainfall this year. Our last measurable rainfall in South Bend was on August 28th. We will continue to watch the tropics for our next “potential” chance for rain. The remnants of what will become Francine will move into the Midwest late this week and into the weekend. A high pressure system just to our north and east will likely keep most of the rain out of Michiana this weekend. The best chance for a few showers will remain to our south and west on Saturday and Sunday. Most of next week looks to remain dry and warm, but a pattern change could occur by next weekend.
