What You Need to Know About Tiffany Jewelry

After Donald Trump’s “disaster” of a debate with Kamala Harris on Tuesday night, his campaign and supporters came up with an assortment of exasperated talking points. ABC moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis had turned on him and gone easy on Harris. The fact-checking had been spotty and unexpected. The topics discussed – and omitted – were all wrong. And Harris had also reportedly engaged in some James Bond-style tech antics, wearing “smart audio” earphones to communicate with her debate team as the night unfolded.

Arriving at the debate in a safe, dark pantsuit and an ivory pussybow blouse, it was Harris’ choice of accessories that stood out. The chunky gold and pearl earrings, which she wore earlier and again Wednesday morning at a ceremony marking the anniversary of 9/11 in New York City, are a design from luxury jewelry brand Tiffany’s “HardWear” collection, a press representative confirmed to the Daily Beast on Wednesday.

The collection “embodies an enduring resilience and the ability to be free,” according to Tiffany’s website. A pair of “HardWearDouble Pearl Hinged Earrings in Sterling Silver” retails for $800. However, the design is not currently available in gold. And, perhaps most importantly, it offers no wearable tech capabilities.

Attacking designer bling as the domain of worldly “elites” might feel like an obvious attack, but the MAGAverse had its own tin-hat trend to indulge in: the Tiffany pieces were instead misidentified as a pair of NOVA H1 Audio earrings from German tech/design brand Icebach Sound Solutions.

Those earrings Doing wireless sound capabilities; Icebach “incorporates a patented out-of-ear hearing technology called Directional Sound, which is hidden inside a freshwater pearl attached to a silver or gold-plated clip,” the brand explained on its website. “Directional Sound technology transmits sound from the pearl directly to your ear, so you can listen to music and make phone calls discreetly.”

In response to the Daily Beast, Malte Iversen, managing director of Icebach Sound Solutions, claimed there was a “striking” similarity between the design and Harris’s emails, but he could not confirm whether she or her campaign had made a purchase. The NOVA H1 earrings are currently out of stock, Iversen said, and Icebach is seeking investors to scale up production.

“While our product was not specifically developed for use in presidential debates, it is nonetheless well-suited for such use,” Iversen wrote in an email. “To ensure a level playing field for both candidates, we are currently developing a male version and will be able to offer it to the Trump campaign soon.”

Iversen then couldn’t resist giving Trump a personal dig: “The choice of color is a bit tricky, though, because orange doesn’t go well with many colors.”
