Democrats believe Taylor Swift’s recent endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris will encourage more young voters to cast their ballots in November. However, recent polls suggest the pop star’s support is unlikely to have a major impact on voters’ decisions at the ballot box.

Swift, an outspoken critic of former President Trump, threw her support behind Harris after Tuesday’s presidential debate. In an Instagram post she signed “childless cat lady,” the pop icon said Harris “fights for the rights and causes that I believe require a warrior to defend.”

California Governor Gavin Newsom told Fox News Digital from the debate room that the show of support “matters.”

“A word of advice to Donald Trump. Don’t ignore that endorsement at your peril,” he said. “She’s a cultural icon. Something big has happened in the world in terms of the energy, the environment that she’s associated with. The optimism that she’s associated with. That was a big deal.”

A Democratic strategist told Fox News Digital that Swift’s support could encourage more voters to go to the polls.

“It’s absolutely going to have an impact on young voter turnout. And Trump knows that,” said Jessica Tarlov, a Democratic strategist and Fox News contributor. “What’s important about the way she did it is she explained her thinking and how her past experiences — the AI-generated images of her — impacted her personally and her decision.”

“This isn’t the Taylor Swift of 2018, wondering if she should get into politics. This is the Taylor Swift of 2024, who knows who she is and isn’t afraid of backlash when she says what she believes.”

A Suffolk University/USA Today poll in May found that about 83% of respondents say an endorsement from Swift would have “no impact at all” on their voting decision in November.

Recent polls show Harris ahead of Trump among young voters, who traditionally make up Swift’s largest support base.

According to a recent New York Times/Siena poll, Harris holds a 10 percentage point lead over Trump among voters aged 18 to 29.

“Since I will be voting for the first time in November, my colleagues and I will not be voting for Kamala Harris because Taylor Swift and her cats told us to,” Brilyn Hollyhand, chair of the RNC Youth Advisory Council and a Gen Z voter, told Fox of the endorsement.

“I think when you look at it, it doesn’t really make a difference. This is all vibes and not policy,” he said. “I don’t think any pop star or viral memes she’s trying to make are going to get Gen Z to vote for her when she has no plans to fix the nation she broke.”

Trump told Fox & Friends on Wednesday that he was not surprised by the endorsement and that he is “not a fan of Taylor Swift.”

“It was just a matter of time. She couldn’t possibly support Biden. Look at Biden, you couldn’t possibly support him,” Trump said.

“But she’s a very liberal person. She always seems to support a Democrat. And she’ll probably pay a price for it (…) in the marketplace.”

While an endorsement may not be the deciding factor, a Monmouth University poll released in February found that 68% of respondents agree that Swift is encouraging her fans to vote this time around.

Following the show of support, Harris-Walz’s campaign released friendship bracelets for sale on her website, similar to the ones fans wore during Swift’s “Eras” tour.
