Sabrina Carpenter hit the red carpet at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards on September 11 in her signature sparkle — and a very familiar dress! The 25-year-old “Espresso” singer, who is nominated for six awards this year, went all out with her look, pulling a dress from the archives.

Carpenter wore a sparkling vintage Bob Mackie gown that Madonna previously wore to the Oscars in 1991. The stunning white dress with a sweetheart neckline featured silver beading around the top that perfectly showed off her delicate necklace. Her bombshell blonde hair was styled in voluminous curls, giving her Madonna vibes and a little Marilyn Monroe vibe at the same time.

At the awards ceremony, held at the UBS Arena in New York, Carpenter is nominated for Artist of the Year, Song of the Year for “Espresso,” Best Pop Song, Best Direction for “Please Please Please,” Best Editing for “Espresso” and Best Art Direction for “Please Please Please.” Carpenter will also perform at the show.

Taylor Swift leads the way with 10 nominations at this year’s ceremony, followed by Post Malone with nine.

At the 2023 ceremony, where Carpenter performed during the preshow, she walked the pink carpet in a breezy, custom-made Vera Wang Haute tulle gown featuring a crystal-embellished corset.

She wore her blonde hair loose in a ponytail, with a few loose strands, paired with some jewelry and metallic shoes.

Carpenter is on top of the world right now. She just released her latest album Short and sweet in August, where fans can find her VMA-nominated tracks. In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe in August, she said the album’s title wasn’t just about her height.

“I called it Short and sweet for a number of reasons. It wasn’t because I’m vertically challenged,” Carpenter said. “I was thinking about some of these relationships and how some of them were the shortest I’ve ever had, and they affected me the most.”

Some of those closest to Carpenter have openly hyped the album, including her on-again, off-again boyfriend Barry Keoghan — who praised the album on Instagram in August — and best friend Joey King.

King told PEOPLE during New York Fashion Week that “Don’t Smile” is actually “perfect,” but that on any given day, she’ll listen to her favorite song.
