Orlando Bloom supports Katy Perry with a kiss — and lots of praise — on one of the biggest nights of her career.

At the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday, September 11, the 47-year-old actor paid tribute to his fiancée in a heartfelt introduction, moments before her Video Vanguard Award acceptance speech and performance — and before the duo shared a passionate kiss afterward.

“You fell in love with her as Katy Perry. I feel in love with her as Katheryn Hudson,” Bloom began his speech at UBS Arena on Long Island. “You know her as a global superstar who brings love, light and her unique sense of humor to every song she writes and every music video she makes. I know her as a mother, as a partner, who brings that same love and joy to our family.”

“When we needed it most, her music and the remarkable world she creates have brought joy and laughter to us and inspired generations of people around the world,” Bloom added. “She loves you with all her heart, and that’s irresistible. I see it reflected everywhere; in our home, in her love for her work, but most of all, in her love for her fans. Congratulations on this honor, baby, I’m so proud of you. 1-4-3. Ladies and gentlemen, your 2024 MTV video vanguard: Katheryn Hudson, Katy Perry.”

Following Perry’s stacked performance — which saw her share highlights from her catalog and spotlight her latest collaborator Doechii — the 39-year-old pop star slid offstage to meet Bloom. The parents, who are mother and father to 4-year-old daughter Daisy Dove, then shared a passionate kiss onstage as Bloom presented her with the trophy.

During her speech, Perry also gave a cheeky nod to her partner, who popped the question in 2019. “Thank you Orlando for keeping me grounded, celebrating me, and doing the dishes,” she said, referencing her NSFW comments about how she thanked Bloom for doing chores during her Call her daddy podcast appearance this month.

During the VMAs preshow on Wednesday, Perry revealed that the couple’s daughter, Daisy, turned to MTV “for the first time” to support her on her big night.

“Don’t stay up too late, honey. Eat your broccoli,” she said.

“I feel good. I had my daughter and it’s changed my whole life,” Perry added. “I feel whole and more grounded. I write songs from a place where I feel really empowered. I feel really connected to my divine feminine. It’s changed my life for the better.”

Perry’s latest trophy, named after Michael Jackson, has previously been awarded to Shakira, Madonna, Beyoncé, The Beatles, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson. Her new album, 143arrives on September 20.
