ELK GROVE – Weeks after the first Amazon Fresh store opened in Northern California, a grand opening is scheduled for Thursday.

The Amazon Fresh store in Elk Grove finally opens its doors at 8 a.m.

The supermarket is located just off Elk Grove Boulevard and Bruceville Road in the Ridge Shopping Center.

A ribbon cutting event will herald the store’s grand opening. Free Amazon gift cards are among the expected giveaways.

Some people have been queuing since Wednesday evening.

“We’ve just been chilling,” Elk Grove resident Christian Mamaradlo said. “We’re excited to win something.”

In August, Roseville’s Amazon Fresh store opened. It was the first Amazon Fresh grocery store to open in Northern California.

The Ridge Shopping Center is also home to a Costco, Nordstrom Rack, and numerous dining options, including Buffalo Wild Wings and Olive Garden.
