Tropical Storm Gordon in the Atlantic Ocean, possible development of the southeast coast

The center of Tropical Storm Gordon was located near 19.4 north latitude and 38.6 west longitude. Gordon is moving west-northwest at 12 mph and the storm is expected to move further west this weekend and into Monday.

Maximum sustained wind speeds have increased to near 40 mph (64 km/h), with higher gusts.

A slight strengthening is expected today, after which weakening will begin on Saturday.

Tropical storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (113 kilometers) from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1006 mb or 29.71 inches.

Dangers to the country: None.

Off the coast of the southeastern US A non-tropical low pressure area could form along a frontal boundary a few hundred miles off the southeastern US coastline this weekend.

The low pressure area could develop subtropical or tropical characteristics and a subtropical or tropical depression could form early next week as the system moves generally northwest.

Chance of formation after 48 hours is 10 percent. Chance of formation after 7 days is up to 40 percent.
