September 13 Morning mist, then sun in the weekend and rain next week

Friday, September 13, 2024

Morning report

Friday the 13th could be a lucky day as we start with fog and low clouds and end with increasing sunshine. The remnants of Francine are nowhere near but they could help to send high clouds.

This weekend looks sunny and warm but we need more rain, which could arrive on Tuesday with a humid airflow from the Atlantic for a few days.

Morning Surface Weather

High pressure is under control and the extra moisture has helped to develop areas of fog. There were no warnings at the time of posting, but it could still affect your travel for a few hours.

The remains of Francine are in Arkansas, and the rain is staying put. Some of that moisture in the air will help feed the high clouds that are headed our way.

Cloud forecast 08:00 to 20:00

As fog and low clouds burn off, a band of high, thin cirrus clouds will move north. There should be more sun in the afternoon, which could mix with a milky white sky.

LOOKING AHEAD

After a quiet and warm weekend, we could see low pressure develop on the east coast and move inland. This could cause a longer trend of southeasterly flow that could bring a few days of showers or persistent rain.

Monday

If a low pressure area with tropical characteristics develops, it will move inland Monday night. Our winds will shift FROM the east and bring more moisture.

REPEATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA

I know there are some spelling and grammatical errors and occasional other mistakes. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches that I miss. I’ve made a few public statements over the years, but if you’re new here you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and discovered it during my sophomore year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to earn the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington area.

One of my professors told me that I had gotten this far without knowing it and that I shouldn’t let it be a crutch. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely right! I miss my own mistakes in my own proofreading. The automatic spell checker on my computer sometimes does an injustice to making it worse. I can also make mistakes in predicting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All the maps and information are accurate. The “wordy” stuff can get tricky.

There is no editor to check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to correct typos when she is available. That may be AFTER you have read this. I accept this and perhaps prove that what you are reading is truly mine… It is part of my charm. #FITF
