Remnants of Francine could bring more rain to Alabama over the weekend

Meteorologists say what remains of Hurricane Francine could bring rain to parts of Alabama through the weekend, and it could pile up before it’s gone.

Francine is no longer a tropical system and its remnants were located over eastern Arkansas Friday morning:

According to the National Weather Service, the remnants of Francine could linger in that region through the weekend, potentially bringing more rain to Alabama before it finally moves away.

And today there could possibly be a tornado, as well as more rain.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center is maintaining a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather for much of Alabama today. A Level 1 risk means that isolated extreme storms are possible (see today’s Level 1 risk areas at the top of this post).

The National Weather Service said a brief tornado is possible today, along with scattered damaging winds. The most likely time for stronger storms will be the early afternoon through the evening hours, according to meteorologists.

There is also a chance of more rain and flood warnings remain in effect for the following green Alabama counties:

Flood warnings have been extended through Saturday.

Rain could pick up considerably before Francine leaves. Here’s the National Weather Service’s rainfall forecast for Alabama through the weekend:

Parts of Alabama are at moderate risk (level 3 of 4) for flash flooding, according to the Weather Prediction Center. A risk level of 3 means “numerous flash flooding” is possible.

The weather service said Francine’s remaining low pressure will linger in the Southeast “through Sunday and Monday.” Forecasters said the chance of rain will remain high in parts of the state through early next week.
