PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers are 2-0 for the first time since the 2020 season and currently sit atop the AFC North. It’s an unlikely start to the season considering many predicted the Steelers would be at the bottom of the division in 2024. Much improvement is needed, but two wins is two wins.

After a 13-6 win over the Broncos, the Steelers proved former NFL player Mark Schlereth’s pregame prediction wrong. In an interview with Fox Sports’ Breakfast Ball before the game, he said the Steelers would lose by two touchdowns.

Not only did Schlereth’s prediction not come true, the Broncos failed to score a single touchdown against the Steelers. The defense smothered the Denver offense, holding rookie quarterback Bo Nix to no passing touchdowns, tackling him twice and intercepting him twice as well.

For most of the game’s viewers, the conclusion was that the Steelers’ defense dominated. But even after being proven otherwise, Schlereth insists he’s not impressed with Pittsburgh. He warned Steelers fans not to get too excited about the win, according to his X account.

“Steelers fans, you’re beating a rookie QB and a rebuilding team with a 7,” he wrote. “Don’t break your arms patting yourselves on the back!”

The tweet comes across as a bit of a sour loser comment from Schlereth. He wasn’t criticizing any of the other teams’ wins over the weekend, but he just happens to be trying to minimize a win he didn’t think would come. The Steelers aren’t out on the streets celebrating a championship after this win, but Schlereth’s comments indicate that Steelers Nation is going overboard.

Now, Schlereth’s warning is a no-brainer, because the Steelers can’t get too excited after this 2-0 start. The Falcons are a borderline playoff contender in the NFC South, and the Broncos will be lucky to win six games this season. The Steelers’ toughest test won’t come until later in the season.

But that doesn’t matter now. The Steelers took care of business in both games to start their season. The eight-week window to finish their regular season is a challenge, but for now, they need to keep winning and improving each week. In the meantime, expect Mark Schlereth to continue making wild predictions about the Steelers, giving them even more chances to be proven wrong.
