Jennifer Lopez and Sheryl Lee Ralph praise The Bear’s Liza Colón-Zayas’ Emmy win

The Bear star Liza Colón-Zayas is being celebrated for her big win at the 2024 Emmys!

Latinx stars are praising Colón-Zayas, 52, after she took home her first-ever Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Shortly after receiving the milestone, John Leguizamo gave the All is well in New York gave a shoutout in his speech about the importance of hiring diverse talent.

“My friend Liza Colón-Zayas – she won for The Bear“the charming story of white people obsessed with Michelin stars and making kale delicious,” he joked, while also naming Latina actresses Selena Gomez, Sofía Vergara, Issa López and Nava Mau (who is also the first transgender person ever to be nominated for an Emmy for acting in a limited series).

Sheryl Lee Ralph also dedicated an Instagram post to Colón-Zayas, sharing photos of the two, along with a video of them dancing in their dresses.

“When my sister @lizacolonzayas_lcz won, it felt like I won too! Her talent, her genius, her heart – it all shone on that stage,” Ralph wrote in the caption. “I so deserved this moment Liza, watching you win was like a dream come true! Congratulations sis. You deserve this moment and more! #emmys.”

Jennifer Lopez posted an Instagram Stories message to honor the actress.

“Yayyyy @lizacolonzayas_lcz 👏👏👏,” Lopez captioned a video of Colón-Zayas accepting her award.

In her own speech, Colón-Zayas thanked the people in her life who have helped her get to where she is today, singling out Ralph, 67, and other celebrity colleagues for their success.

“Thank you for putting the microphone down for me,” she joked. “Thank you to my husband David Zayas, he told me to write a speech and I didn’t because I didn’t think it was possible. How did I think it would be possible to be in the presence of Meryl Streep and Carol Burnett and Janelle and Sheryl Lee Ralph. I love you all, I adore you to the bottom of my heart. My mamí, mamí, thank you. My family, my grandchildren, thank you.”

“Thank you for giving me a new life with this show. And to all the Latinas watching me, keep the faith and vote. Vote for your rights,” she concluded.

Her victory was just one of The Bears 11 wins and 23 total nominations this year. The series also won for best casting, writing, and direction. It was also nominated for best comedy series.

Colón-Zayas plays Tina Marrero in the hit FX series, which follows a Chicago restaurant and its eclectic kitchen staff as they steadily rise through the ranks in the kitchen of chef Carmy (played by Jeremy Allen White, who won for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy).
