Rep. Mark Green accused of infidelity over wife’s message: reports

play

The wife of Tennessee Republican Rep. Mark Green has accused him of having an affair, multiple media reports.

Green, chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, had planned to retire earlier this year after taking office in 2019, but changed his mind weeks later. Court records show Green filed for divorce from his wife, Camilla Green, in late August.

The Nashville Banner first reported Camilla’s allegations, which surfaced in a message sent to members of Congress. She said he was having an affair with a 32-year-old woman he met after being corrupted in Washington.

“He fell so in love with her that he wanted to marry her and start a new family,” she wrote, as reported by Politico. “Satan rewrote our marriage in his mind.”

Mark’s re-election campaign did not immediately respond to USA TODAY’s request for comment, but told Banner and Politico: “This is a difficult time for me and my family, and we are currently in the process of divorce proceedings. Because this is a very personal matter, I ask for privacy… I will continue to serve this district with everything I have, as I have done for the past five and a half years.”

Wife of MP Misidentifies Mistress as Journalist, Leading to Legal Threat

In the group text message Camilla sent on September 11, Mark’s mistress was falsely identified as an Axios reporter, leading to a legal threat against the news organization.

In a letter obtained by USA TODAY, Axios’ legal counsel told Camilla she needed to text the group again to “set the record straight” or the company would “take further action.”

Camilla did not immediately respond to USA TODAY’s request for confirmation, but told Politico: “I want to correct the record because I misidentified someone in that post. My husband was never in a relationship with an Axios reporter, and I regret saying that.”

Rep. Mark Green planned to retire, but was then pressured by Trump

Rep. Mark Green, who also serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, announced in mid-February that he would not seek re-election.

“Our country — and our Congress — is broken beyond repair,” he said in a statement. “I’ve come to realize that our fight is not here in Washington, but with Washington.”

Weeks later he reversed that decision.

“While it has been my strong desire to leave Congress at the end of this year, since my announcement I have received numerous calls from constituents, colleagues and President Trump urging me to reconsider,” Green said in a statement shared with The Tennessean, part of the USA TODAY Network, in February.

In 2017, Green withdrew from the nomination to become Secretary of Defense under the Trump administration after mounting criticism over his past comments about gays and lesbians, Muslims and other groups.

In the upcoming election, Green will face former Nashville Mayor Megan Barry, a Democrat, for the 7th District, which includes Clarksville and part of Nashville.
