‘Wheel of Fortune’ Player Misses Rare $1 Million Prize

A “Wheel of Fortune” contestant missed out on a $1 million prize during Ryan Seacrest’s second week as host of the beloved game show.

During Monday night’s episode, player Vivian Tran lost the top prize after missing one word in the nerve-wracking puzzle.

“My heart is racing, this is a first for me,” Seacrest said during the Bonus Round. “You’re playing for $1 million.”

Tran also received a joker for an extra letter.

Seacrest, who replaced longtime host Pat Sajak, explained that the game show had replaced the usual $100,000 envelope with a $1 million envelope.

Tran then turned a small wheel that contained the envelopes with the prizes and randomly selected one.

The puzzle category was “What are you doing?” and Tran chose the letters C, H, M, I, and P.

After “Wheel of Fortune” co-host Vanna White revealed the correct letters, the player on the puzzle board selected the command “_ _ _ ERING S _ ME HELP.”

Tran admitted she was “nervous” before attempting the puzzle a few times.

“Do you need help? Do you need help? Do you need help? Do you need help? Are you looking for help? Limit for help?”

When the “Wheel of Fortune” puzzle was revealed and the answer was “Offer Help,” Tran initially appeared frustrated and emotional.

When Seacrest revealed that there was a $1 million prize in her envelope, she clutched her hands.

Tran was shocked to miss out on the top prize, but she was in high spirits and still managed to take home $27,300 and a trip to Europe.

“The stakes this season are already incredibly high and it’s only Week 2,” reads the official “Wheel of Fortune” Instagram account.

After the player’s loss on “Wheel of Fortune,” Sajak’s daughter Maggie interviewed her about her time on the show.

Tran said her mother had doubts about her participating in the show, but she proved her wrong as she still won prize money and a trip to Europe.

“It turned out great, a little painful, but I’m grateful for the opportunity,” Tran said.

She further explained, “I knew the last two words… but the first one… I couldn’t make out the syllables.”

“It was 10 seconds long, so when it got to the eighth second I thought, ‘Yuck’ and missed it.”

Fans of “Wheel of Fortune” were just as angry for the player when she missed out on the top prize.

“It was painful to see the loss of a million dollars tonight,” was one of the comments on Maggie’s Instagram video.

Another comment read: “Ouch.”

“YIKES! There’s something about the word ‘OFF’ and having the grand prize envelope… Great job, Vivian!!” wrote one fan.

The last contestant to win the $1 million prize was in 2014. In October 2021, former “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” cast member Melissa Joan Hart won the jackpot during an episode of “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.”
